Project Overview
Carrisbrooke Apartments, a historic landmark situated at the corner of South Steyne and Wentworth Street in Manly, recently underwent an extensive façade restoration led by Anchor Safe Rope Access. Originally constructed in 1926, this significant architectural structure is approaching its centenary and required critical restoration to ensure its longevity.
As specialists in façade remediation, Anchor Safe conducted a comprehensive restoration to preserve the structural integrity and historical charm of the building. The scope of work included detailed refurbishments to the timber windows, crack remediation of the façade substrate, rendering, waterproofing, and the application of protective membrane coatings to safeguard against environmental damage.
Services
Given the building’s close proximity to the coastline—just 60 meters from the shoreline—the restoration required careful planning and execution to combat the harsh marine environment. Anchor Safe Rope Access employed its expert team and cutting-edge technology to ensure a seamless restoration process while minimising disruptions to the surrounding businesses and pedestrian traffic.
Key restoration services included:
- Detailed hands-on Inspection & Condition Assessment: A thorough photographic inspection was conducted before commencing the restoration. Our experienced technicians captured and measured all visible building defects to establish a precise repair strategy.
- Timber Window Refurbishment: The original timber windows were carefully restored to maintain the building’s historic character while reinforcing their durability.
- Crack Remediation & Substrate Repairs: Extensive crack remediation was performed to restore the building’s façade integrity and prevent further structural deterioration.
- Rendering & Waterproofing: The application of high-quality render and waterproofing treatments was carried out to enhance the building’s resistance to moisture infiltration and environmental stressors.
- Protective Membrane Coating: Over 1,000 litres of elastomeric membrane were applied to safeguard the cement walls and other structural elements, ensuring long-term protection against the harsh coastal environment.
To maintain transparency and provide real-time updates, all shareholders were kept informed throughout the project via the Anchor Safe live feed production mobile app, which facilitated seamless communication and progress tracking.

By leveraging advanced rope access techniques, Anchor Safe Rope Access was able to efficiently restore the facade while preserving the historic significance of Carrisbrooke Apartments. This restoration ensures the building remains a cherished part of Manly’s architectural landscape for the next century.
Anchor Safes attention to detail was phenomenal. Having their site foreman on site constantly reviewing and looking into each detail each step of the way made a huge difference. You would point something out and they would be there the next day rectifying it, sending you photos and live updates on how they went about it and what they have done. Then at the weekly mtgs they would present that to the owners and to the client to ensure they had met what they promised.”
