Project Overview
Located in the heart of Pyrmont, Sydney, the Hymix cement plant is a prominent fixture within the city’s industrial landscape. When the facility underwent a corporate rebranding, the site required an immediate repaint of its top cement silo band to reflect the new identity. Given the site’s 24/7 operational status, Anchor Safe Rope Access was engaged to deliver a rapid, safe, and high-quality outcome with minimal disruption to plant activities. After the corporate rebranding, the plant now operates under Heidelberg Materials.
The Challenge
Accessing the silo top band presented significant logistical and technical hurdles. The presence of large-scale equipment, conveyor systems, and tight clearances meant traditional access methods were unsuitable. Working at height under strict time constraints over a long weekend added further complexity. To ensure a safe and efficient approach, our team undertook recertification of existing rope access anchors and installed 10 additional points, allowing comprehensive and secure coverage across the entire silo structure.
Our Solution
Utilising our rope access expertise and industrial coatings capabilities, Anchor Safe executed a full repaint in just two days, including:
- Surface Preparation: High-pressure washing to remove contaminants, loose paint, and dust buildup from years of exposure.
- Protective Coating System: Application of Dulux Precision High Opacity Stain Blocker, followed by two coats of Dulux Weathershield Low Sheen in Lexicon White to achieve a durable, weather-resistant finish.
- Environmental Care: All waste was responsibly managed, collected, and recycled, maintaining a strong environmental standard on site.
Results
Despite the complexity of the access and timeframe, the project was delivered incident-free, within deadline, and to the highest quality standard. The result was a revitalised and brand-consistent appearance for the Hymix plant — a visual transformation underpinned by robust, long-lasting performance.
